How Far Is Richmond from Pawleys Island?

Pawleys Island sits roughly 350 miles from Richmond, meaning the drive will take around 5-and-a-half to 6 hours. To get to Pawleys Island, you’ll start on I-95 through Petersburg, Rocky Mount, Fayetteville, and Lumberton, before taking the exit near the state line and hopping on US-301 through Dillon. After that, continue down SC-41, SC-51, and US-701 towards Georgetown until you hit US-17 North into Pawleys Island. Some navigation apps may take you toward Conway before putting you on US-17. Whichever route you pick, we’d suggest checking traffic updates before hitting the road.
Places to Stop Between Raleigh and Pawleys Island
If you need a break along the drive or simply need somewhere to stretch out after all the driving, stop at one or all of these towns and attractions along the way.
Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park
Sitting about 2 hours from Pawleys Island in Downtown Wilson, this fun park features a colorful collection of towering, wind-powered sculptures. Volis Simpson Whirligig Park is also a great place to assemble the crew for some wacky photos. Open from 5 AM until midnight, the attraction also features a museum and gift shop, so you can bring home a memory of your visit!
Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Stretch your legs out at this massive, 80-acre botanical garden near downtown Fayetteville. Explore various native plants, camellias, riverside scenery, and stunningly themed gardens before continuing south. The garden sits only minutes from the interstate and downtown, making for a quick stop along the way.
Historic Marion
Before reaching the coast, stop in Marion to explore its historic and well-preserved downtown. Walk around and visit the Marion County Museum or follow the two-mile Hike and Bike Trail from the historic train depot. Since the Richmond route already passes through Marion, it’s an easy addition to your drive.
