The South Carolina Lowcountry plays host to a wide range of events throughout the year. From music festivals to holiday celebrations, there’s always something going on! Pawleys Island events are fun for the whole family and give you a chance to get to know the local community. We invite you to join us at some of our favorite gatherings below. Then, use our free Litchfield BeachTravel Guide to find more things to do in the area!

We Love These Annual Events in Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach

March

March marks the start of spring when the weather begins to warm up and the Lowcountry comes back to life. It’s a great time to get outside and get active! Sign up for the Myrtle Beach Marathon and earn your PR along scenic Ocean Boulevard. Or, attend the MI Race for the Inlet, a family-friendly waterfront race followed by a celebratory breakfast.

If racing isn’t your thing, try a different kind of competition at the Luck of the Marsh Walk. During this St. Patrick’s Day event, contestants enjoy drink specials, live music, and traditional Irish dishes at various eateries up and down the MarshWalk. You must have your card stamped at each restaurant to win!

July

The Pawleys Island 4th of July Parade has been around for over 50 years! Bring the kids and admire the floats decorated in red, white, and blue. Murrells Inlet also hosts a celebratory boat parade for Independence Day. You’ll love watching the fireworks explode over the water at night!

The Annual North Litchfield Golf Cart Parade is a local tradition that has been around for over 35 years! The parade held on the 4th of July will be held rain or shine. Carts will start rolling at 10am at 135 Hanover Street, heading south to south bound lane on Parker Drive. We recommend lining up early to enjoy the gathering.

September

Atalaya Castle is an interesting landmark in Murrells Inlet, SC. The historic castle was built in the 1930s by Archer Huntington, a philanthropist from New York City. Explore the building and its grounds during the Atalaya Arts & Craft Festival where fine art, quality crafts, food, and music come together.

October

Fall is a wonderful time to visit the Lowcountry. The weather is mild, there are fewer crowds, and there’s plenty to do and see! Experience the works of talented artists and musicians during the Pawleys Island Music Festival or get a taste of history at the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show. If you’re traveling with kids, head to Brookgreen Gardens for their Fall Harvest Festival that includes scarecrow building, hayrides, pumpkin painting, and more.

November

Runners have two more opportunities to hit the pavement in November! Sign up for the Guy Osborne Memorial Turtle Strut or the Historic Georgetown Bridge2Bridge Run this fall. Both races showcase the beauty of our unique coastal area.

December

If you’re staying with us around Christmastime, be sure to add Nights of a Thousand Candles to your vacation itinerary. It was named the “Best Christmas Lights in South Carolina” by Travel + Leisure and attracts thousands of visitors each year! At night, Brookgreen Gardens sparkles with 2,700 hand-lit candles and countless twinkling lights. Hot cocoa, carolers, and holiday music complete the festive scene.
